Le site est implanté dans un agréable paysage vallonné, en pleine nature. Un espace d'exposition, l'ancienne pépinière et un arboretum présentent sur une vaste surface des végétaux en situation.

Située entre Grenoble, Chambéry et Lyon le site est aisément accessible.
L'altitude de 600 m, entre le massif de la Chartreuse et la région des « Terres froides », avec des neiges abondantes et des froids rigoureux garantit la résistance des végétaux.
